Travel through Tanzania in small groups together with wildlife photographer Gabriel Haering and improve your photography through field coaching, image reviews and real safari experience.

Travel Through Tanzania With a Wildlife Photographer

These are not traditional safari tours.

Each journey is personally accompanied by wildlife photographer Gabriel Haering and designed for photographers and nature lovers who want a slower, more thoughtful and photography-oriented safari experience.

The focus is on:

  • wildlife photography in the field
  • understanding animal behaviour
  • reading light and atmosphere
  • improving composition
  • patient observation
  • ethical wildlife photography
  • sharing knowledge and experience throughout the journey

Whether using a professional camera or simply wanting to improve your images and observation skills, the goal is to experience Tanzania differently and return with stronger photographs and lasting memories.

Safari Photography Workshop During the Journey

This photographic safari includes an informal but structured workshop component designed to help participants improve their wildlife photography while travelling through Tanzania.

The workshop is not separated from the safari experience. It takes place naturally during the journey: in the vehicle, in the field, at the lodge and during the quieter moments of the day. The goal is to learn from real situations, real light, real animal behaviour and the images created by each participant.

Post-Production and Image Quality

The workshop can also include practical discussions on post-production and digital workflow.

Depending on the interest of the group, we may cover:

  • working with RAW files
  • image selection with Adobe Bridge
  • basic and advanced adjustments in Adobe Photoshop
  • improving contrast, colour, sharpness and local detail
  • careful use of Nik Collection
  • preparing images for web, print or personal archives
  • maintaining a natural and ethical approach to wildlife photography

The aim is not to over-process images, but to bring out the quality already present in the original photograph while respecting the atmosphere of the scene.

Daily Image Review and Group Discussion

Whenever time and logistics allow, we review the photographs taken during the day.

Together, we discuss:

  • use of light and exposure
  • composition and framing
  • timing and animal behaviour
  • background and perspective
  • sharpness and technical choices
  • what worked well
  • what could be improved

Each participant can share selected images, and the group discusses them in a constructive and respectful way. The objective is not criticism, but continuous improvement: learning from each other, understanding different photographic choices and developing a stronger eye day after day.

Participant-Driven Topics

The workshop remains flexible. Additional topics can be discussed according to the needs and interests of the participants, such as:

  • camera settings
  • autofocus strategies
  • photographing birds in flight
  • low-light photography
  • action and movement
  • black and white wildlife photography
  • portfolio selection
  • storytelling through images
  • preparing images for social media or print

This approach makes the safari both a wildlife experience and a practical photographic learning journey.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should you prefer a private journey, I can help you design a tailor-made photographic safari in Tanzania based on your interests, the time of year, your photographic level, your budget and the travel rhythm you prefer.

We can include classic parks such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Ndutu, or more unusual and less visited itineraries such as Nyerere, Ruaha, Katavi, Lake Natron, Mkomazi, or customised combinations between Northern and Southern Tanzania.

A tailor-made safari gives you greater flexibility: more time where the light is interesting, more patience in front of animal behaviour, more attention to composition and less pressure from overly rigid itineraries. It is the ideal solution for photographers, couples, friends or small groups looking for a journey built around photography.
  1. Choose your safari: Pick one of the scheduled departures or a tailor-made trip that fits your timing and interests.

  2. Enquiry & consultation: Contact me with your questions and wishes. We clarify expectations, skill level, gear and any special needs. Many common questions are answered in the FAQ.

  3. Detailed proposal & booking: You receive a detailed program, price and conditions. Once you confirm, your place is reserved and we move to preparation.

  4. Preparation & mentoring: Before departure you get practical information, packing suggestions and, if you wish, online guidance on gear and settings.

  5. On-safari experience: Small groups, flexible game drives, and continuous photographic coaching in the field – always with an ethical, respectful approach to wildlife.

  6. After the trip: We can review images together and discuss post-processing ideas. Learn more about my approach on the About page.
I am a wildlife photographer drawn to Africa by patience, light, and the emotion of being truly present in the wild. More than thirty years of safaris have shaped a way of travelling and photographing that is thoughtful, respectful, and deeply personal.

That same spirit guides the bespoke safaris I create and personally accompany: journeys designed not only to see wildlife, but to experience it more deeply, with time, care, and photographic intention. To learn more about me and my approach, visit the About page
On the blog, you will find real safari reports, stories from the field, practical tips and insights into African wildlife photography.
You can also explore my photographic portfolio dedicated to African wildlife and landscapes, with images taken in Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Kenya.

Should you be looking for a print for your home, studio or private collection, visit the Fine Art Prints shop, where limited-edition wildlife images are available. Many of the photographs were taken during the same safaris and in the same places you can visit with Gabriel.
